The Many Bags of Vanessa Hudgens

The Many Bags of Vanessa Hudgens

If you like weird pop culture things, you’re probably eagerly anticipating the release of Spring Breakers, a film directed by Harmony Korine that stars people as varied as Disney princess Selena Gomez and Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane (in his cinematic debut, no less). I happen to love weird pop culture things, so to celebrate the film, we’re going to take a look at the handbag collection of Vanessa Hudgens, who plays one of Gomez’s debauched friends in film. If you like fringe, you’re in the right place.

Vanessa’s personal style is pretty much All Coachella, All The Time; when left to her own devices, she generally looks like she’d rather be sitting in the California desert and listening to some live music than doing whatever it is she’s actually doing at the time. I can’t say I identify with it personally, but if you’ve got a bit of hippie chick in you, this one’s going to be right up your alley.

The 15 Best Bags of Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013

The 15 Best Bags of Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013

Leave it to the French to cap off the Fall 2013 show season with a fashion week full of subtle, elegant, incredibly luxurious bags. Along with the clothes that graced the majority of the runways at Paris Fashion Week, the bags were largely casual and wearable; where a thousand rhinestone-encrusted clutches once stood, we instead found functional everyday bags in shades of ivory, burgundy and black. Lest we forget about the luxury of it all, many of those bags were rendered in lush exotics.

This is what our continental friends do best, of course; these bags all look easy, and they will be easy to carry, but they’re all designed just so. Luxury doesn’t have to be inconvenient or trend-based, it can be just that: luxury. For the best bags that embody that ideal from Paris Fashion Week, check out our roundup below.

Check out what all the celebs were carrying to Paris Fashion Week

Check out what all the celebs were carrying to Paris Fashion Week

Last week, we spotlighted what celebrities and fashion people were carrying to attend the Chanel Fall 2013 show (shocker: lots of Chanel), but its far from the only show that attracts stars and their handbags at Paris Fashion Week. From Stella McCartney to Louis Vuitton, American, European and Asian celebs carried a ton of envy-inducing bags all over Paris in the past week. Thankfully, a horde of photographers was there to document the entire thing.

Predictably, most of the stars wore bags made by (and given to them by) whatever brand they were lined up to see. At Paris Fashion Week, though, that’s still sight the behold; I don’t really care how someone came to have a Valentino, Dior or Louis Vuitton bag, I just enjoy looking at them. And look at them we shall, below.

PurseForum Roundup – March 8

PurseForum Roundup – March 8

Welcome to the PurseForum Roundup, and a very very happy Friday to all. This week, we had a hankering for some sunshine, or at least a reasonable facsimile. We found just what we were looking for on a sunny balcony in Italy and in a pretty yellow tote that did the trick very nicely. We also found some style inspiration from PurseForum fashionistas and had a wonderful time enjoying what our Chanel members have been adding to their collections in March. We share all this and more with you below, so come on along!

Italian Balcony

This week, we had springtime on our minds, and apparently we were not alone. We noticed the Home and Garden subforum’s Garden Photographs thread was active this week and found a a picture-perfect warm spot for cappuccino on ItzBellaDuh’s gorgeous Italian balcony. This thread will be brimming with beautiful photographs as the weather warms up this spring.

Elsewhere in Home and Garden, the Newest Home Decor Items thread’s readers all appreciated jeh3v’s new vintage brass trunk and her gorgeous attention-loving feline friend, too! Drop by Home and Garden and check out this week’s homey discussions ranging from candle scents to problematic neighbors!

Chanel Classic Flap Bag in Grey

There was a lot to see in Chanel this week, particularly in the March 2013 Purchases thread, which has started off with an impressive collection of Flaps, Boys, WOCs and more! We particularly took a fancy to grispoivre’s first Chanel, pictured above. This is a truly lovely color that will move easily through the seasons. Stop by, the goodies are rapidly piling up, even as we speak!

Rag and Bone Harrow Boots

Over in the Glass Slipper, we love to visit the Newest Shoe Purchases thread, where
we always find a wonderful variety of shoes, boots, sandals, and flats to get excited over. This week, Myrkur’s stunning photographs of her new CL Biancas grabbed our attention, and how cute are these Rag and Bone Harrow boots from sammie225? Super shoe sleuths have also been busy in the Shoe ID thread, helping members identify and track down shoes of every style with remarkable speed and skill. Maybe you can try your hand at this great spectator sport.

Balenciaga Cuff in blue

Have you visited the Outfit of the Day thread in The Wardrobe? This is a favorite stop for many of our members, whether it is to post their daily fabulous outfits or to get inspiration from one another. This week, PlaceboGiraffe put together the perfect ensemble for going to university on a crisp March day, and we are happy to feature her wonderful style here. If you feel the need for a quick infusion of sunshine, be sure to see what bbagsforever has styled in this gorgeous shot. Don’t be shy about posting YOUR Outfit of the Day!

Goyard St Louis Tote Yellow

Speaking of warmth and sunshine, let us leave you with the lovely tatertot’s Goyard St. Louis Tote from the What Bag are you Carrying Today thread. The Handbags and Purses Forum houses threads across a wide range, including such interesting topics as a new poll on bags with “wings”, conversations on MZ Wallace bags, purging your collection (eek!!) and recent purchases. It’s easy to find ongoing conversations in this busy bag hangout, so jump in and join in!

Have a great week everyone!

The Many Bags of Nicky Hilton

The Many Bags of Nicky Hilton

Brace yourself, kids: Nicky Hilton’s bag collection is about to make your head explode. You should probably ask friends and loved ones to move out of your immediate vicinity, lest they get any on them. If you don’t heed that warning, well, it’s not my fault. None of this is my fault. It’s all Ms. Hilton’s. I’m just a middle man. And I know what you’re thinking: Nicky Hilton? YES, THAT WAS MY REACTION TOO. I share in your incredulity.

Now that you’re all properly prepared like front-row attendees at a Gallagher show in the 70s, we can begin. Nicky Hilton has (and has been photographed with) basically every bag that’s been popular since I first became aware of designer handbags circa 2002. Every It Bag from the Chloe Paddington to the Celine Luggage Tote is represented here, plus a lot of other beautiful bags along the way. If you don’t believe me, I’ve got all the evidence you could ever need below.

Check out Alexander Wang’s first handbags for Balenciaga Fall 2013

When we discussed the possibilities of Alexander Wang’s handbags for Balenciaga back when the young American designer was named to replace Nicolas Ghesquiere as the head of the brand, most of you were not particularly optimistic about Wang would do, particularly compared to the genius of his predecessor. After all, precious few brands can boast a line that’s been as successful as the Balenciaga Motorcycle Bags, which were Ghesquiere’s brainchild. As it turns out, though, Wang’s Balenciaga Fall 2013 Handbags show some promise, as did the entire collection.

Wang’s always had a good sense of what women want to carry – handbags have long been one of, if not the, most successful parts of his eponymous brand – and the handful of petite, highly structured bags that appeared on the runway showed a good deal of maturity and a good grasp of what’s been going on with Balenciaga up to this point. The angular, fluid closure hardware was also mirrored in cuffs and boots, and with the addition of a long, slender shoulder or crossbody strap, I could see these bags being carried and coveted by plenty of fashion folks. A smart, slightly conservative outing – just what Alexander Wang needed.

Introducing the Balenciaga Mini City Bag

Introducing the Balenciaga Mini City Bag

Balenciaga introduces a new shape in its celeb-favorite Motorcycle Bags every couple of seasons, but I can’t remember the last time a new Bal excited me as much as the Balenciaga Mini City Bag. Spring’s just around the corner (that sounds like a lie, but it isn’t we promise), which means we’re all looking for a bright little bag to carry our warm-weather essentials, and this new crossbody model might be just the ticket.

This bag was first released as an Asian exclusive over the summer, but now we all get to delight in the miniaturized version of the Balenciaga classic. Naturally, our first question was how the new bag differs from its big sister in size. We found the helpful comparison image below on our Forum, and the new bag is listed as 9.5 inches wide by 6.25 inches tall, while the original measures 15 inches wide and 10 inches tall. That means that the proportions of the two bags are approximately the same, making the new version a true “mini.”

Balenciaga Mini City Bag Size Comparison

The new Mini City is the smallest of Balenciaga’s current major bag offerings, clocking in at a slightly smaller size (and slightly different proportion) than the Balenciaga First (which, in turn, is slightly smaller than the Balenciaga Town, and so forth.) Perhaps the most exciting development is the inclusion of a crossbody strap, which most older Balenciaga styles don’t have and which allows for a more modern, casual style of wear. The new bag can be had for $1,295 via Barneys in the sunshine yellow color below, or for the same price via MyTheresa in the coral pictured above.

Top 5 Summer Clutches: Summer Lovin’

CC Skye, Edie Parker, Tiffany & Co., Delvaux, Balenciaga Summer Clutches

Are we there yet? Like a little kid whining in the backseat of the car, I’ve already got my eyes on the next phase: I’m ready for summertime bags. When it comes to a hot-weather clutch, you don’t want anything heavily beaded or trimmed in bulky skins. Let’s lighten up, people. Think easy, effortless, and fun, like this eclectic array of clutches, from the cool as ice to the hot as the sun.

1. CC SKYE The Sunset Boulevard Clutch: The sheer and clear trend isn’t slowing down, and seductively dark Lucite makes for the right combination of mystery and translucence. On Shopbop for $275.

2. Balenciaga Pocket Mail: Off-white and olive are two staples when it comes to summery neutrals. This is colorblocking at its most classic, and the strip of gold adds a touch of opulence. Available for pre-order at Barneys New York for $645 (expect delivery in March).

3. Delvaux Madame Pouchette: Bright, vibrant yellow: need I say more? Oh, and it’s Delvaux, for a slice of tailored, sunny perfection. At Barneys New York for $1,710.

4. Edie Parker Lara Acrylic Ice Clutch: When your heat needs cooling off, ice is the answer. Edie Parker’s Ice clutch, to be exact. When the humidity hits a new high, this is a breath of fresh, cold air. Available for pre-order at Neiman Marcus for $895 (expect delivery by March 4th). Octavia Spencer wore a version of this clutch to the Oscars yesterday!

5. Tiffany & Co. Wrist Pochette: Small and sweet as can be, this baby bag shows high energy comes in petite packages. The off-kilter zipper makes for a standout detail. At Tiffany & Co. for $595.

The Many Bags of Lauren Conrad

The Many Bags of Lauren Conrad

I mean this with all due respect: In 2013, it’s hard to believe that Lauren Conrad is still legitimately famous. In many ways, actually, that’s a compliment. Reality TV stardom is notoriously tricky to turn into a lasting career, but by all indications, Conrad seems to be making a pretty decent go of it. Her books do pretty well, she has a beauty website that’s chugging along, the paparazzi still follow her, I still quote her more memorable lines from The Hills occasionally. (Lauren was right, he IS a sucky person.)

Lauren’s popularity probably endures because she was always something of a blank slate; a young blonde girl who probably looked like someone you knew and who seemed relatively nice, or, at the very least, like someone who wouldn’t make a very good villain. She seemed like she cared about her friends, and we all wanted to know what kind of eyeliner she used. Her unobtrusiveness, plus the perception that she’s a girl’s girl, mean that we’re probably going to be seeing Ms. Conrad for some time to come. For now, let’s see her handbags.
