Lily Allen doubles up with Chanel and Saint Laurent bags at the train station

Lily Allen doubles up with Chanel and Saint Laurent bags at the train station

News broke yesterday that Lily Allen staged her first live music gig in FOUR YEARS during the Etam lingerie runway show yesterday in Paris, singing her hit single “Smile” as ladies in barely there undies paraded down the catwalk. Here she is upon her return home at the St. Pancras train station in London, juggling a Chanel Coco Cocoon Tote and a Saint Laurent Classic Duffel Bag.

This line of Chanel bags is no longer made, but Lily was actually the face of the line when it was introduced in 2009. (The same year she announced she was “quitting music”.) Her duffel of choice is Hedi Slimane’s first original women’s bag as head of the newly renamed Saint Laurent brand. It can be yours for $2,150 at Neiman Marcus.

20 moments that will leave you in love with J. Mendel Fall 2013

20 moments that will leave you in love with J. Mendel Fall 2013

Sometimes I find it hard to go to a show at fashion week and not get carried away in the beauty of it all. I end up leaving a show and thinking how magical it was, but then I remember that just because the experience is great doesn’t mean the clothing was as well. That’s absolutely not the case for any J. Mendel show I’ve been to; actually quite the opposite. Each and every time, J. Mendel manages to take me away to an ethereal world of beauty and grace. You might only associate the brand with red carpet looks, but watch out, this designer has a blossoming knack for accessories that was on display during the Fall 2013 runway show.

All of the premiere designers out there better make room, because J. Mendel is not only in town, but has also pulled up a front row seat to join you. I, for one, could not be more thrilled by this development; I find myself feeling like I am part of a dream world at each of his shows and don’t want it to end. Be ready to be transformed, and take a look at 20 moments to make you fall in love with J. Mendel Fall 2013.

Frieda Pinto Flies with Burberry

Frieda_Pinto_Burberry_Orchard_SatchelFrieda Pinto was spotted at LAX carrying the ultra-chic and classic Burberry Satchel-Medium Orchard. This is a perfect travel/everyday bag with its size and simplicity. You can pack things away in it for the plane but won’t feel like you’re carrying a duffle bag around, smacking people in the head as you walk down the isle of the plane. This satchel won’t spew your things around the plane floor either. With  zip-closure top, everything will stay safe and sound under your seat. Regardless of outfit, this bag will be a breeze to throw on and go from work to weekend. Pick it up at Bloomingdale’s for $1595.

The Many Bags of Kerry Washington

The Many Bags of Kerry Washington

If you’ve been anywhere near your Twitter account on a recent Thursday evening, you might have noticed that basically everyone on Earth watches (and loves) Scandal. I’m hesitant to admit that I’ve never seen the show, but it’s the next thing up on my catch-up list after I get done re-watching The West Wing on Netflix, which is actually a fairly appropriate progression. In Scandal, Kerry Washington plays legendary Washington D.C. PR pro Olivia Pope, who’s charged with fixing all manner of political disaster before they ever become public.

Kerry also starred in Quentin Tarantino blockbuster Django Unchained, and between those two roles, she’s been making the red carpet rounds something fierce over the past year. Luckily for us, she’s not one of those stars who makes her handlers carry her bag while she poses for photos, not is she the type to carry the same plain, metallic clutch to every event. We’ve got a ton of Kerry’s best red carpet handbag moments, plus a few more casual looks, waiting for you below.

Henry Beguelin Sello Bag: Easy Does It

Henry Beguelin Sello Bag

Who says Bottega Veneta has cornered the market on weaves? They might be famed for their intrecciato, but this loose and inexact woven leather is all Henry Beguelin. Their story is as freewheeling as their bags themselves. Thirty years ago, a group of friends who lived on the Mediterranean island of Elba started crafting leather goods from recycled materials. Decades later, that beach-life spirit is still going strong.
The sand-dune palette and ultra-relaxed slouch of the Sello make for the all-day, every-day summer bag I have been fantasizing about. Effortless and hand-touched, there is such a great textural quality to this foldover-flap bag, I’m instantly in love with it. Not to mention the fact that it puts visions of seashells and oceanfront sunsets in my head…which is exactly why I can’t wait to carry it on city trips, bringing a well-traveled vibe to crisp white tees and chunky-gem jewels.
On Farfetch for $1,195.

Pair with: Thakoon Addition’s printed-silk dress is business in the front (well, almost) and beachy in the back, thanks to a back-baring cutout.
On Net-a-Porter for $490.

Proenza Schouler, why ruin a good thing by adding a chain strap?

Proenza Schouler, why ruin a good thing by adding a chain strap?

If you peruse PurseBlog articles on Proenza Schouler, you will see that the entire team adores Proenza, and we say so often and without reserve. Right now, though, I’ve got a bone to pick with the brand; all I want to know is, why did they ruin a good thing with their beyond crazy hit, the PS1, by taking a tomboyish satchel and trying to turn it into a ladylike, chain-strapped shoulder bag? Part of the reason the PS1 stood out from everything else when it was launched was the utility-chic shoulder strap and minimal hardware. Believe it or not, the chain shoulder strap completely changes the bag and I think it not only ruins the look, but also cheapens it.

The bag in question is the Proenza Schouler PS1 Mini Messenger bag, which is available in a variety of colors and materials. It doesn’t help that the shape isn’t my favorite rendition either, but it’s all passable until we get to the shoulder strap, where you will find oversized chain metal that leaves me feeling like this bag is “inspired by” instead of being from the designers themselves. This simply isn’t the PS1 I fell in love with, and that makes me a little sad. The good news is I don’t think the boys are adding this strap to most of their bags, and there are still plenty of beautiful PS1 bags to choose from. This version is available via Neiman Marcus for $1,945.
