Doctors warn about high heels

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –

The latest fashions might make people look good, but they could be doing them harm.

Tight jeans often called skinny jeans may make legs look longer, but doctors say wearing the tight jeans with high heels is a recipe for disaster.  Heels higher than two inches have been linked to many aliments.

“It’s been proven to cause many problems, anything from bunions to hammer toes and chronic pain,” said Memorial Hospital’s Dr. Gary Winfield. “It has the potential to cause pain, nerve issues, and even significant digestive problems can occur.”

Unfortunately, folks who stick to flat shoes can also have problems.  People who wear flip-flops constantly are losing support in their soles. They also tend to clench their toes to keep the flip-flops on, which can lead to ankle and hip problems.

Doctors say if people are seated for a long period of time while wearing tight jeans, it increases their chance for blood clots.

Ladies aren’t the only ones who fall victim to fashion; a study out of Cornell shows that almost a third of men buy dress shirts too small in the neck. A tight shirt around the neck can cause big problems.

“You’re literally semi-strangling yourself every time you put your clothes on,” said Winfield.

Doctors say a lot of the clothes that are in fashion right now could cause a danger.

Aside from tight jeans and shoes, women and men who wear body shapers that are too tight can face nerve damage and even digestive issues. Shapers that compress the upper abdomen can also prevent lungs from fully inflating, reducing oxygen intake, which can lead to lightheadedness.

Next fall brings a dramatic line-up from designer Jenny Packham while designer Rachel Roy wants a more natural look. NY1′s Jessica Abo filed the following report.

Roll out the red carpet and get ready to smoke your look for fall. Jenny Packham’s latest collection packs a punch with deep red satin dresses, crystal-covered necklines and elegant evening gowns, all inspired by Hollywood’s film noir from the 1940s.

“And the most inspiring part of it was the leading ladies who were real femme fatales, who were glamorous, enticing, dangerous,” says Packham.

Whether you show off a cinched waist or something off the shoulder, these figure-fitting looks will leave your onlookers in the dust.

“I feel like a princess when I wear her clothes. It kind of takes me back to dress up when I was a little girl,” says “Gossip Girl” actor Kaylee DeFer.

While Packham has a dark and dramatic collection, designer Rachel Roy has lots of earthy tones in store for modern-day women this fall.

“The starting point was a documentary called ‘Women In The Dirt,’ and it focuses on female landscape architects and how they take natural elements like moss, stone, dirt even, and create very strong linear lines in urban settings,” says Roy.

When it came time to design these snoods, silhouettes and shoes, Roy says she made this collection for the busy woman who balances it all.

“If they’re not going to a job, they’re going to something in their life that they balance very passionately, and they need to get pulled together quickly,” says Roy.

Her loyal following says these looks are just what they need to help them get dressed and run out the door.

“It’s so, so beautiful and different and I love the shoes,” says “The Help” actor Anna O’Reilly.

“It’s just so fresh and really young. I mean this, the clothes fit beautifully,” says “The Lying Game” actor Alexandra Chando.

“I love her use of textures and colors and how amazing they make me feel when I wear them,” says “Smash” actor Megan Hilty.

So thanks to Roy now you’ve got the dirt on what will be hot when the temperature cools.

BRITs 2012: Little Mix, we are loving your new look

Little Mix always look stunning, but as they strutted up The BRITs red carpet tonight, we did a double take.

The girls – Jesy, Leigh-Ann, Perrie and Jade – looked especially hot to trot at the awards ceremony.

[Related article: BRITs red carpet trend: monochrome]

[Related gallery: BRITs red carpet arrivals]

First up was Jade’s super-sleek purple-tinted hair. Then there was Jesy showing off her new red locks. Big thumbs up so far.

Next we turned our attention to the girls’ footwear. If we wore Jesy’s bright pink boots we’d probably feel a bit…well…silly. But Jesy manages to make them look amaze.

Leigh-Ann’s neon shoes, Perrie’s cute union jack boots and Jade’s platforms all won serious fashion points too. Nice attention to detail, ladies.

The girls manage to not only look gorge as individuals, but they also seem to co-ordinate perfectly as a group as well.

Seriously impressive stuff girls, we like your work.

London Fashion Week Autumn / Winter 2012 Show Report: Anya Hindmarch

From her gorgeous must have handbags to her always impressive press days and fashion week events, Anya Hindmarch knows just how to fullfil every need of a fashion crowd. But today’s A/W’12 extravaganza will definitely break her record for the most complex and wonderfully inventive stunt ever! This morning we gave you a sneak peek at a teaser trailer video of Anya’s fashion factory and what will be her first ever actual show (complete vid to come veeery soon). But here’s the full lowdown for now…

“It’s like our own version of a catwalk, but for accessories!” Anya told us. What it really is, for us, is pure magic. With a collection titled ‘All I’ve Ever Wanted’, Anya’s wild imagination and the set-design talents of the best man for the job out there and her good friend Michael Howells (lauded for his work on such high profile sets like Dior’s couture runways), we’re weren’t surprised they didn’t miss a single detail in their quest for perfection….

As if the excitement wasn’t peaking quite enough, the fash pack got a sugar high from Anya’s Quality Treats choccies they found on their seats (and it was a major hint – this classic tin of Quality Street choccies was the starting point for the very sparkly collection). After two 1950s-style dinner ladies offered out tea, we spotted them chatting away in the wonder-warehouse and accidentally leaning on a handle to turn a conveyor belt full of fun on… Whirring into action – complete with ‘Anyamatronics’ of dangling and spinning light up LED and wind-up musical bags, glittery shoes created in collaboration with Terry de Havilland and bauble-like hand crafted evening bags – there were white gloved hands popping out of nowhere to showcase the goodies! “The set was inspired by a toy my children have called ‘The Christmas Machine’, where presents go in and come out magically wrapped!” She told us before the show, “But it’s not really about Christmas, just that excitement. I wanted to embrace that feeling – it’s just like the buzz of buying a new handbag!”

And then there was the finale to end all finales! From behind a curtain Anya was revealed atop a podium, riding a bicycle that powered the entire factory line. And get this – she had light up shoes! Boom, a burst of snow-globe snow frosted the FROW and everyone left with a rather large smile on their faces.
